As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, an “OSP license” typically refers to a license issued under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India for companies operating as Other Service Providers (OSPs). OSPs are entities that provide services such as tele-banking, tele-medicine, tele-education, and other IT-enabled services.

Here are the general steps involved in obtaining an OSP license in India:

1. **Eligibility:**
– OSP registration is generally required for companies providing application services, content-based services, or any other services using telecom resources.
– Certain activities, such as voice-based BPO or call center services, may require OSP registration.

2. **Choose OSP Category:**
– OSPs are classified into Domestic OSPs and International OSPs based on the nature of services provided.

3. **Prepare Documentation:**
– Prepare the necessary documents, which may include:
– Company incorporation documents.
– Memorandum and Articles of Association.
– Board resolution authorizing the application.
– Network diagram showing the OSP location and connectivity.

4. **Submit Application:**
– Submit the application for OSP registration to the respective Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell of the DoT.

5. **Application Fees:**
– Pay the prescribed application fees along with the submission of the application.

6. **Verification:**
– The TERM Cell may verify the details provided in the application, including the network diagram and other relevant information.

7. **OSP License Issuance:**
– If the application is approved, the DoT issues the OSP license.

8. **Compliance:**
– Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions specified in the OSP license.
– Comply with the security and privacy guidelines laid down by the DoT.

9. **Renewal:**
– OSP licenses typically need to be renewed periodically. Ensure timely renewal to avoid any disruptions in service.

10. **Security Deposit:**
– In some cases, a security deposit may be required, especially for International OSPs.

It’s important to note that the process and requirements for OSP registration may be subject to changes, and it’s advisable to check the latest guidelines from the Department of Telecommunications or consult with professionals who are familiar with telecom regulations in India for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Additionally, the status of regulations may have changed since my last update in January 2024.
